Doesn’t AvE also refer to dumpsters or scrap bins as the gettin’ spot?
Especially when he’s referring to a clapped-out old piece of gear that he tears down

My impression of the local gettin spot was always more industrial in definition. He seems to use it a lot when talking about stuff he might not have ordinarily bought, but may have been able to snag at work from a storage area. After all when you’re ordering something for a job, you order 3. One to use, one to lose, and one to steal.

I think this means your industrial workplace’s tool crib (where he says he got some of his tools) also when purchasing expensive tools on the company card, until the accountant goes to your chits & you get fired…
This. From that same vijayo (American vs Chinese Craftsman Wrenches) referring to how one acquires a Rastall adjustable wrench with the hammer bit: “… Well you get these free from the gettin’ spot, if’n you know what I mean. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.”
